Chocolate Syrup
Chocolate Syrup: Nutrition and Guide
Chocolate syrup is a sweet, pourable chocolate-flavoured topping made from cocoa powder, sugar, water, and typically corn syrup, with added flavours and preservatives. It is significantly lower in cocoa solids than chocolate sauce made from actual melted chocolate, and correspondingly lower in fat and calories — reflecting its water-based rather than cream or butter-based formulation. At 153 kcal per 100 g, it is notably lower in calories than most other sweeteners in this section due to its high water content. The most recognisable commercial product is Hershey's chocolate syrup, used in American chocolate milk making, ice cream sundaes, and chocolate milk drinks. It provides a small contribution of genuine cocoa polyphenols from the cocoa powder component. Use as a topping for ice cream and sundaes, for making chocolate milk, for chocolate milkshakes, as a dessert plate decoration, and in mocha coffee drinks.
