Fruit-Flavoured Syrup

Fruit-Flavoured Syrup: Nutrition and Guide

Fruit-flavoured syrups encompass a range of sweet, concentrated liquid sweeteners flavoured with real fruit, fruit concentrates, or artificial fruit flavourings — including cordials, cocktail syrups (Monin, Torani, Fabbri, and similar), and pancake-style fruit syrups. They are used primarily as beverage additives (diluted with water, sparkling water, or added to cocktails), as dessert toppings, and as flavouring additions to baked goods and confections. The nutritional profile (261 kcal, 65.1 g sugars per 100 g) reflects a fairly standard sugar-based syrup with relatively high sugar content typical of commercial cocktail or cordial syrups. The distinction between products using real fruit and those using artificial flavourings is nutritionally minor but significant for flavour quality — real fruit-based syrups (elderflower cordial made with elderflower, raspberry syrup from actual raspberries) have considerably more complex and authentic flavour character than artificial alternatives.

Uses

Dilute with still or sparkling water for a soft drink. Use in cocktails as a flavouring and sweetening modifier. Drizzle over ice cream, panna cotta, and cheesecakes. Use in trifles and layered desserts. Add to sparkling water for homemade flavoured water. For homemade versions: simmer equal weights of fruit and sugar with a little water until the fruit breaks down, strain, and bottle — the result is dramatically better than most commercial products.
