Cooking oil sprays — including the American brand PAM and equivalent products — deliver a fine mist of cooking oil from an aerosol or pump canister, providing a very thin, even coating of oil on cooking surfaces. The oils used are typically canola, sunflower, or olive oil, with lecithin added as an emulsifier and sometimes a propellant (alcohol, nitrogen, or CO2). The primary benefit is practical rather than nutritional: a brief spray delivers only a fraction of a gram of oil — perhaps 0.2–0.5 g per application — enabling virtually zero-fat cooking of eggs, vegetables, and lean proteins in non-stick pans where the oil is used purely as a release agent rather than a cooking medium. The per-100g nutritional data (792 kcal, 78.7 g fat) is essentially irrelevant to practical use given the tiny quantities deployed per spray.

Uses

Spray cooking surfaces before cooking eggs, pancakes, and other foods that stick. Spray baking tins and trays before use. Use on silicone moulds and cake tins for easy release. The aerosol spray produces a much more even coating than brushing or pouring oil, which is particularly useful for coating non-stick surfaces where even distribution matters.
