Apple Pie Recipes - Ingredients

Cooking Time: 55 minutes
Servings: Serves 4 to 6 people
Serve with cream, ice-cream or custard

Ingredients for apple pie recipe:

  • 125 grams self-raising flour

  • 125 grams plain flour

  • 1 lightly beaten egg

  • 2 tablespoons caster sugar

  • 155 grams chopped butter

  • 3-4 tablespoons iced water

  • A little milk for the pastry edges

Ingredients for apple pie filling recipe:

  • 8 large apples - red and green apples

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 8 whole cloves

  • 4 thick strips of lemon rind

  • 440ml water

  • 90 grams caster sugar

 

Apple Pie Recipes - Instructions

1. Sift both flours into a large bowl. Mix the butter with the flour until it turns to crumbs.

2. Create a well in the centre of the flour mix and tip the beaten egg and iced water into it - mix until the dough comes together.

3. Lightly flour a surface and place the dough mixture on it. Form a ball from the mixture, cover it with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator for twenty minutes.

4. Make the apple pie filling:
Peel the eight apples, core them and cut into large pieces. Place in a large pan with all other filling ingredients. Cover and allow to simmer for approximately 10 minutes, apples should be tender but firm. Drain and remove the cinnamon, cloves and lemon rind. Allow to cool.

5. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C. Roll two thirds of the dough mixture and transfer to a 9 inch pie dish covering the base and sides. Place in the refrigerator for approximately ten minutes.

6. Spoon the apple mixture into the pie. Create the top of the apple pie by rolling out the remaining pastry then place over the filling. Brush edges with a little milk and beaten egg. Trim pastry edges with knife. Fork or crimp the edges. Brush the top with the remaining egg. Decorate with remaining pastry if you desire. Create several slits in the top with the knife to allow steam to escape during cooking.

7. Place in oven for approximately 45 minutes or until the apple pie is cooked through and golden brown. Dust the top with icing sugar.

 

Apple Crisp Recipes - Ingredients

Apple crisp is an old homemade favorite recipe:

Cooking Time: 50 minutes
Servings: Serves 6 people
Serve with cream or ice-cream

Ingredients for apple crisp recipe:

  • 4 cooking apples

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • 3/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1/2 cup quick-cooking oats

  • 1/3 cup butter softened

Apple sauce is a homemade traditional favorite recipe:

Cooking Time: 15-30 minutes
Servings: Serves 10 people
Serve with meat and poultry

Ingredients for apple sauce recipe:

  • 225 grams cooking apples

  • 1/2 zest of lemon

  • 2 tablespoons water

  • 1 tablespoon caster sugar

  • 15 grams butter

Apple Crisp Recipes - Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 190 degrees Celsius.

2. Grease an 8 inch pan - base and sides.

3. Slice the cooking apples then spread the slices evenly over the base of the pan.

4. Place the brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, oats and butter in a bowl then mix together well.

5. Spread the mixture evenly across the apple.

6. Place in the preheated oven for approximately 30 minutes or until the apples are cooked through (tender) and the top is golden brown.

7. Allow to cool slightly before serving - serve apple crisp warm.


Apple Sauce Recipes - Instructions

1. Peel, core and chop the cooking apples.

2. Place the chopped cooking apple in a saucepan.

3. Add the water and zest of lemon.

4. Place the saucepan over a low heat, cover and allow to cook until the cooking apples turn very soft.

5. Remove the cooking apple mixture from the heat.

6. Add the sugar and butter then beat well.

7. Allow the apple sauce to cool before serving.
